Growing in Honor

Growing in Honor

Jesus Rejected at Nazareth

Mark 6:1-6

1 Then He went out from there and came to His own country, and His disciples followed Him. 2 And when the Sabbath had come, He began to teach in the synagogue. And many hearing Him were astonished, saying, “Where did this Man get these things? And what wisdom is this which is given to Him, that such mighty works are performed by His hands! 3 Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us?” So they were offended at Him.

4 But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country, among his own relatives, and in his own house.” 5 Now He could do no mighty work there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. 6 And He marveled because of their unbelief. Then He went about the villages in a circuit, teaching.

Honor the Pastors: You have pastors that know honor. For that you should be very thankful. However, I want to ask you the question: have you allowed them to teach you to honor? See as their daughter, I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that these leaders have model honor for you and have taught you how to honor, but have you received their teaching?

Prophetic Word: I believe that the Lord wants to break out powerfully in this house. I know that He is already doing marvelous things in this place, but I also know that He is not done. You have not reached the cap of what He wants to do here. I believe that the Lord wants to break out in many miracles. As a result, the Lord cannot be restrained.

Jesus wanted to do many miracles in His hometown, but their lack of honor, produced a lack of faith and he could do NO MIGHTY WORKS THERE

Dishonor will restrain the work of the Lord in this place, but honor will unleash Him!

Honor is assigning heaven’s value to someone or something.  Honor begins with seeing people and things the way God sees them and then treating them according to their God given value.

If we want the Lord to be unleashed in our life, unrestrained we must be able to honor in 3 ways:

  1. Honor God

  2. Honor Authority

  3. Honor One Another

#1 Honor God

  • Honoring God begins with the fear of the Lord (Pro. 9:10)

    • A holy reverence for Him

    • It’s seeing God rightly

    • As you begin to see God rightly, you are drawn into greater intimacy with Him

    • You fall in love with His qualities and attributes that it leads you to fall deeply in love with the Lord

    • From that place of LOVE you are motivated to live in a way that will honor Him in all that you do!

  • The fear of the Lord doesn’t move you away from God, but draws you closer to God

    • Some of us ask the question: how close to the line of sin can I get before I actually cross it and it becomes sin?

    • A person who walks in the fear of the Lord doesn’t ask that question. Instead he asks: How far from the line of sin can I be? How close to you can I be? I want to be as close to you as possible!

    • As a result, you live a life that honors Him!

Three ways you can begin to honor God today:

  1. Honor Him with your time:

    1. Set apart a time and space to meet with God daily (Psalm 91:1)

    2. This is where you receive your marching orders for the day and walk with God, not apart from Him.

  2. Honor Him with your finances:

    1. Tithes, Offering and alms (Pro 3:9)

    2. In the passage we read, because the people did not honor Jesus they lacked the faith they need for God to perform many miracles.

    3. As I prepared for my time here I sensed from the Lord that because some of you don’t honor God in your finances you lack the faith that He will provide

    4. Honor Him with your finances and you will grow in faith for provision!

      1. You’re waiting for faith to rise up in you and what you actually need to do is start by honoring God and then the faith will come.

  3. Honor God in your labor

    1. Galatians 6:8-10: 8 Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. 9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

    2. Don’t grow weary in doing the Lord’s work.

    3. Keep your hand to the plow

    4. If there is a need and you can meet it, meet it

      • If your pastors ask something of you and you can fulfill it, do it cheerfully! Without grumbling!

        • Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you. Hebrews 13:17

      • Catch God’s heart for the vision and mission of this house and work to labor among them

    5. Continue forward for at the proper time you will reap a harvest!

      • So, my dear brothers and sisters be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless. 1 Corinthians 15:58

#2 Honor Authority

  • One of the greatest way to demonstrate honor of authority is through submission

    • 1 Peter 2:13-14

    • Hebrews 13:17

    • Ephesians 5:21-33

    • Ephesians 6:1-4

  • Submission is a voluntary attitude of cooperation and responsibility.

    • As a son or daughter of God, you are not called to be independent and walk out this life without leadership.

  • We need God’s leadership in our life.

  • We need spiritual leadership in our life.

    • Pastors/Spiritual Mothers and Fathers

  • Wives, you need the leadership of your husband.

  • Children, you need the leadership of your parents.

  • CAUTION: Do not forsake God’s order for covering!

    • Umbrella analogy

Ask the Lord today: Where am I walking uncovered? Get under His plan for covering today!

#3 Honor One Another

  • Mark 6:1-6

  • The way you honor one another in this community matters to God.

  • Notice: the lack of honor for Jesus began when they began to gossip about Him.

    • The gossip then led to an offense! They were offended with Him!

  • Beware of anyone who begins to gossip about anything or anyone!

    • A gossip betrays a confidence; so avoid anyone who talks too much. Proverbs 20:19

    • Often hidden in prayer requests or flattery!

    • If it starts, cut it off

    • Take them directly to the person they tried to gossip about to resolve the issue, if possible!

  • The Lord wants to move in this place, don’t allow the enemy the opportunity to be successful in his schemes!

    • Remember: the enemy only comes to steal, kill and destroy.

    • Don’t allow the move of God to be destroyed by the enemy because you tolerate the gossip and even worse are entertained by them.

    • It’s not entertainment, it’s demonic and it has come to steal, kill and destroy the work God wants to do in your midst!

  • Tolerate it no longer in your life!

Ministry Moment:

  • If the Lord has convicted you in an area today, repent.

  • Repent for a lack of honor for

    • God

    • Authority

    • One another

  • Humble yourselves and ask Him to teach you to honor Him today!

    • Teach me to honor!

    • Grow me in honor!

  • Pray that Jesus would be unrestrained in your life, your family and your church as a result of choosing honor!

  • Honor is part of heaven’s culture! So we declare heaven on earth here in KHOW!
