Rooted & Renewed

“Water is the ultimate source of life for a tree, to be planted by the water is to have a regular supply of life itself.” -Unknown

Blessed is the man

    who walks not in the counsel of the wicked (thinking),

nor stands in the way of sinners (behaving), 

    nor sits in the seat of scoffers (belonging);

but his delight is in the law of the Lord (thinking),

    and on his law he meditates day and night (behaving).

He is like a tree

    Planted (belonging) by streams of water

that yields its fruit in its season,

    and its leaf does not wither.

In all that he does, he prospers.

Jesus is the blessed man

And we are to follow in His ways.

Reflection:

• Who do we think like?

• Who do we behave like?

• Who do we belong to?

Where are we finding our renewal?

• What do we think about?

  • Hidden thoughts 

• What does our behavior look like?

  • Especially when no one is looking 

• Who has our allegiance? 

  • Look at where your time and money go

Being rooted in Christ will form our:

• Thoughts 

• Behaviors 

• Belonging  

This is a lifelong pursuit of being rooted and renewed. It never ends. We must never stop being rooted and will never stop needing renewal. 

Look at the Life of Abraham (Genesis 12-22)

• Given a promise

• Insecurity 

• Promise spoken again 

• Attempts to fulfill the word through His own strength 

• Name change 

• Promises declared again

• More insecurities 

• Promise fulfilled 

• Immediate obedience to the Lord 

• Faith tested 

• Immediate obedience and abundant faith 

Note: Encounters will God and God’s faithfulness to Abraham is what changed everything for Abraham. Through encounters his thoughts, behaviors and sense of belonging was being formed. 

We are promised renewal when we are rooted:

Set out to encounter God, He will take it from there. We show up, He does the work of renewal. Choose to be rooted.
